Students are naïve psychologists when they enter the psychology classroom – they have informal theories explaining how people think, behave, and feel. As a psychology instructor, I guide students from naïve psychology to scientific psychology. My students learn to challenge their initial conceptions and critically examine their behavior and the behavior of those around them. I strive to have a lasting influence by prioritizing opportunities to demonstrate concepts, teaching with empathy and equity, and emphasizing engaged learning.
